Welcome back to Published in Black Podcast, the space where authors stop begging for support and start building brands that bank. In today's episode, we are talking about the power of a pitch letter, how authors get paid to speak. Truth is, if people don't know about you, they cannot book you, and if you're still waiting for folks to find you, you're missing out on the easiest money you could be making right now Paid speaking engagements. Authors, let me tell you something you are sitting on the bag and don't even realize it. You already wrote the book, you already lived the story, you already teach the message. So why aren't you pitching yourself as a speaker? Let me put it this way why sell one book to one person when you could sell hundreds by getting one mic in one room? That's leverage, that's visibility, that's strategy. Now let's talk pitch letters. Your pitch letter is not just a little email. It is your invitation to the stage and it needs to do three things Introduce who you are and what you speak about. Show how your message connects to the audience. Give them a clear next step to book. You Stop waiting for folks to reach out. You need to reach out. Email. Churches email, schools, email corporations, conferences and community events. Most of them have a budget for speakers. They just don't know you exist yet. Here's where most authors miss it. You're still thinking small. Let me sell one book to one person.
Speaker 1:Meanwhile, corporations are booking speakers to talk about mental health, diversity and inclusion, women's empowerment, overcoming adversity, financial literacy, leadership, faith-based resilience and guess what? You probably already speak on one of those topics. Speak on one of those topics. They'll pay you $1,500, $3,500, $10,000 and up to speak for 30 to 60 minutes. You walk in with your message, walk out with a check and book sales.
Speaker 1:This is the shift. Let me give you the sauce right now. You should have a link to book you in every bio period, whether that's a Google form, a type form, an acuity scheduling link, a full booking page on your website. You need a place where someone can inquire about booking. You share event details and either pay a deposit or get a follow-up call. Make it easy for people to pay you If someone sees your reel or podcast episode and gets inspired. There should be no extra steps. Click, book done and here's the key you determine if you're a good fit. Just because someone fills out the form doesn't mean you say yes, vet your stages.
Speaker 1:Let me give you your speaking strategy in five moves. Know your title plus your expertise. You're not just an author, you're a trauma coach, a storytelling expert, a resilient speaker. Get clear on that. Create your pitch letter Short, powerful, specific who you are, what you speak on, why, why it matters and how to book you build a speaking page or form. Use google forms, acuity or your website to collect booking requests, add your rates or let them request a quote.
Speaker 1:Pitch yourself weekly. Set goal Five to ten new organizations every week Churches, schools, conferences, corporations, start small Show receipts, local panels, nonprofits, virtual summits. Collect testimonials, footage, 15-second video clips and photos to boost your speaker profile. Listen, if I could reach through this mic right now and shake you into motion, I would, because this is how you go from waiting on support to creating your own opportunities. You already have the book, you already have the story, you already have the impact. Now package it, pitch it and profit from it. Let them know I'm not just published, I'm powerful and I'm ready to speak. This is Published in Black, where authors stop hiding and start owning their platform. Catch you next episode.
